The exhibition is dedicated to anniversaries of writers Ivan Turgenev and Leo Tolstoy, opens in the Museum-estate “Yasnaya Polyana”. Visitors learn the story of the friendship of the classics of literature. The exhibition is called “I. S. Turgenev and L. N. Fat. Two writers – two anniversaries”.
“This year marks two important dates – the 200th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Turgenev and 190 anniversary from the birthday of Leo Tolstoy. The exhibition is drawn to the creativity and views of the two writers,” – said in a message posted on the Museum website.
Ivan Turgenev and Leo Tolstoy met when the first was already an established writer, and the second only began literary career in the journal “Sovremennik”. Correspondence, diaries, random entry memories of their colleagues show how the writers were natural and candid in communicating among themselves. According to the organizers of the exhibition, sometimes this sincerity even prevented, when the clash of temperaments of the argument nearly came to a duel, and sometimes helped when “the purity and power of the senses were United so that they were stepping over the internal contradictions that existed between them.”
