Student project about RSL: How to stop worrying and learn to love the library

Students developed a project guide for the Russian State library named after Lenin, called “silence” or “How to stop worrying and learn to love the library.”

In this special project, which a month and a half preparing along with RGB and contains lectures and interviews with employees, hundreds of photos, dozens of library requirements, and quickly and clearly told and shown everything that could be useful to its readers the main library of Russia. Here are also many interesting facts about the institution and in the process debunks many existing myths.

In the RSL is 46 million units, that is, one edition for every third Russian citizen. They are published in 367 languages, though, with all the cultural diversity of the Russian state, the population of the Russian Federation speak 174 languages.

The height of 19-storey stacks almost reaches the height of the leaning tower of Pisa.

The facility has been operating for 155 years, at the time of its opening, more healthy classics of Russian literature – Tolstoy, Nekrasov, Turgenev, Saltykov-Shchedrin, Tolstoy, and others.

The library staff consists of 1819 employees, that’s more people than sits in the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

The total volume of card catalogues is 69.5 million cards and if each card record one person, you can double-spend the census of Canada.

In the RSL every day, there are 200 new users, just as many people annually come to the I-th year undergraduate faculty of Philology of Moscow state University.

The total length of the shelves reaches 375 km is more than the length of the paths of the Moscow metro. And the book Depository continues to increase by about 10 km per year.
