About books

Literary critics and experts shared with TASS, his opinion of the finalists.

Critic and journalist Dmitry Samoilov, speaking of the book of one of the finalists Alexander Arkhangelsky, noted that this novel is “about the search for God and betrayal during the period of late stagnation.” “It is made quite plain, but it is clear and recognizable even for those who the time can only know the movies. Then the generals of the interior Ministry, which apparently now will be to investigate the “cotton case”, whether they themselves will become involved in some other, there is little karabelnik – silent and sinister. Here the children of the nomenklatura is loose, but clever,” said Samoilov.

Writer Mikhail Butov, speaking about the book Ermakova, noted that “rainbow and Heather” combines almost an adventure story and a philosophical view of historical narrative and a story about today, it is common to many languages, weaving an impressively thin fabric of the text.

Member of the expert Council of the award Alexey Mikheyev noted that Roman Grishkovets “memoir, highly detailed, incredibly thick, but covering only the first half of life is known to all masters of monoples: actually, before these monoplies narrative had not yet arrived, and to think, there should be a sequel”. According to him, the book Grishkovets – “warm and fascinating story of the formation of a free creative personality in the conditions of unfree States”.

Dmitry Bykov’s novel “June”, according to literary critic Natalia Lomykina, “aphoristic and very accurate, there is often inherent redundant baracetti and philosophical digressions”. The text of his novel like a series of photos, which managed to capture the elusive atmosphere, she said. “In “June” immerse myself and absorb the sensations, until no longer enough air. But when crazed emerges, you realize that outside of the novel breathing still hard,” said Lomykina.

Novelist, member of the editorial Board of the journal “New world” Olga Novikova said that the novel Slavnikova “does not copy life, and simulates it.” In the story, the hero is sacrificing the health and sports career for the sake of a stranger, but in the end it is a tragedy for him. “The story is symbolic and meaningful, he appeals to the reader’s co-creation. Well, give up trying selflessly to do good or we return to the original ideals, passing through the thorns “times deceptive and deaf,” as Mandelstam?” she said.

The CEO “Big book” Georgy Urushadze believes that the genre of the book “Memory of memory” Maria Stepanova is impossible to determine. “Memoirs? The study? She Maria Stepanova calls his text a romance. It should be read very slowly, stopping, turning to his own life and its own memory,” says Urushadze.

Head of the Department of prose of the magazine “Banner”, member of the expert Council of award “Big book” Elena Kholmogorova, speaking of the book of Alexey Vinokurov “People of the Black dragon”, noted that it is difficult to define briefly, it is difficult to place in any genre table. “It is a strange narrative, a limited space of the village, but infinite in time, it is a myth and at the same time, a series of household stories, this unexpected mixture of different cultures like Chinese, Jewish and Russian <…> But the main thing – it’s a fascinating read, ironic, like light and air, but is contained within in the external exotic the abyss is deep and eternal problems,” she added.

Deputy editor-in-chief of magazine “October” Alexey Andreev compared the novel of Andrei Filimonov prescription the creation of the world, which are divided by the author on women, men, magic and the Soviet, as a kind of provocative ernicheski response to the old question: who are we, whence and where are we going? “The recipes are the creation of the world, which are divided by the author on women, men, magic and the Soviet – as a kind of provocative ernicheski response to the old question: who are we, whence and where are we going? Where – is somehow understandable, but where and who is still in darkness. The author of this darkness does not dissipate just by example, using the irony of trying to settle in, as inevitable and fraught with lots of surprises,” he said.
