In Moscow opened an exhibition on the 200th anniversary of the birth of Turgenev

The exhibition will continue until January 31, 2019

MOSCOW, October 30. The Exhibition “The Arabesque. Pages in the life of Ivan Turgenev’s” dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of the writer, officially opened Tuesday at the Museum of Ostroukhov in Moscow. It is built on an unusual principle and a novel from the life of Turgenev, said at the opening ceremony, the Director of the State Museum of history of Russian literature named after V. I. Dahl, Dmitry Bak.

“We have great news today, its scale is very big for us, because the jubilee year of Turgenev started a long time ago, there have been many events. In many of these events, our Museum is also involved – for example, in the exhibition “Moscow perspective” which was prepared by the State historical Museum,” said Buck.

He added that in honor of the anniversary of the writer were projects abroad in Heidelberg (Germany), Bougival (France), scheduled in Paris and Baden-Baden. Tank recalled that soon will be the long-awaited opening of the Museum of Turgenev Ostozhenka. “I’m sure he will become a cult place for all lovers of Turgenev in Moscow,” said Buck.

“The exhibition which we open the link in a very big chain, is very important for us. I would highlight two points. First – here is our collection, it is one of the richest in the country. We wanted to showcase it in all its glory,” said Buck.

The second important point, he said, is that the exhibition is arranged according to an unusual principle. “This kind of novel and scenes from the life of Turgenev,” – said he.

The exhibition includes editions of the works of the writer with his autograph, objects belonging to Turgenev and his mother, manuscripts and letters, photographs and portraits depicting including contemporaries of the author, his “friends and enemies, writers and musicians, compatriots and foreigners, those who took his fate”. Guests of the exhibition will see pictures depicting the favorite places of the writer, the illustrations to his works. The exhibition will continue until January 31, 2019.

On the celebration of the anniversary

Russian President Vladimir Putin in March signed a decree on the celebration in 2018 the 200th anniversary of the birth of Russian writer Ivan Turgenev. Then the head of state instructed the government to establish an organizational Committee on preparation and holding of celebrations and develop a plan of action. In celebration of the all over the country and abroad have been numerous events dedicated to the writer. Main will be held on the day of the birth of Turgenev – 9 Nov.

A classic of Russian literature, whose works are a mandatory part of secondary school programs of Russia was born on 9 November 1818 in Oryol. The most famous writer’s works – the novels “Fathers and sons”, “the noble nest”, the story “Asya”, story “Mumu” and the cycle of stories “notes of a hunter”. The works of Turgenev had a huge impact on the development of Russian literature.
