According to TASS with reference to the responsible for international relations at the municipality of Sorrento, Antonio Fiorentino, a town lying on the picturesque Amalfi coast of southern Italy, a monument to the great proletarian classics of Russian and Soviet literature. Its opening was timed to 150 anniversary since the birth of the writer.

The ceremony took place at noon last Saturday on the city’s main square – Piazza Victory, with the participation of officials of the world of culture and governmental institutions of the Russian Federation and the Italian Republic. The monument by the famous Russian sculptor Alexander Rukavishnikov is made in the form of a column with flying puffins and a bust of Gorky at the top.
