One of the most famous Israeli writers Amos Oz died at the age of 79 years, reported the official representative the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Jewish state Emmanuel Nachshon.
“Mourn the departure of Amos oz, one of the most outstanding literary voices of Israel. Loss for us and the whole world,” he wrote in the microblog Twitter.
Oz is the author of numerous prose works, which was considered in recent years one of the most likely candidates for the Nobel prize in literature. Oz’s works have been translated into more than 40 languages, including in Russian – more than a dozen books. His book “a Tale of love and darkness” became the first Israeli of a work, included in the school curriculum in China.
World-famous novelist not once been in Russia. The last time he visited Moscow this autumn. In October, in Beethoven hall of the Bolshoi theatre hosted the award ceremony of the literary prize “Yasnaya Polyana”, the winner of which in the category “Foreign literature” in 2018 became Amos Oz in one of the last novels – “Judas.”
Oz has actively participated in public and political life of Israel, calling for an end to occupation and a peaceful settlement with the Palestinians.
The newspaper “gaarets” writes that he died of cancer.
