Received the main literary award of France. Winner of the Prix Goncourt was Nicolas Mathieu with his book “Children after them.”
The events in the novel take place in 1992. Reviewers have described it as a story about pre-empting all the power of the first summer and first love. Critics have also called the book “a political and social mural, based on the life of French youth”. Mathieu on Russian not translated – hope yet.
Goncourt prize has been awarded since 1903. The ceremony takes place with true French chic in a solemn lunch in a Paris restaurant “Groin”. A sheet with the name of the winner traditionally removed from the bucket for champagne.
The decision to take ten critics and writers. Moreover, in order to become a winner, you must be French by the author. In past years, was won by Michel Houellebecq and Jonathan Littell. In 2017 the prize was awarded to Eric Vuillard with the novel “the order of the day.”
